About Us

Welcome to PaleoResource Consultants.

PaleoResource Consultants (PRC) is dedicated professional mitigation paleontologists with over 75 years of combined experience doing professional paleontological resource impact assessments and monitoring and mitigation programs on large earth-moving projects. This year – 2009 – marks our 27th year in business.

We understand state and federal environmental laws and regulations pertaining to paleontological resources and have prepared “data adequate” paleontological resource impact assessments and paleontological resource monitoring and mitigation programs for more than 60 large earth-moving projects.

We understand the relationship between geology, stratigraphy, and paleontological resources. In addition to being professional paleontologists, we are licensed/registered professional geologists. We have been in the geological/paleontological consulting business over 25 years and have been doing professional paleontological resource impact assessments since 1982.

We understand the construction business with its:
  • Changing and always pressing schedules
  • Need for flexibility due to changing conditions
  • Heavy equipment dangers and safety requirements
  • Need to work within strict limited budgets

In addition to Dr. Lanny H. Fisk, PhD, PG, as Principal Paleontologist, and Dr. David M. Haasl, PhD; Dr. Hugh M. Wagner, PhD; and Dr. Karen G. Jensen, PhD, as Senior Paleontologists, our firm includes administrative staff, one paleontologist/geologist with a masters degree, eight field paleontologists/geologists with bachelors degrees, and six field paleontologists/geologists who are current college students working on their bachelors degrees in geology. Current projects include paleontological surveys/assessments and mitigation monitoring of excavations for highways, power plants, pipelines, landfills, coal mines, and housing developments. In addition, we have several paleontologists with PhDs or masters degrees who are subconsultants, primarily identifying specific groups of fossils.

We are not professional paleontologists doing mitigation. Rather, we are professional mitigation paleontologists. There is a difference!
